Dance Together

Learn about three different types of clouds and make a dance inspired by their different characteristics.

Join 92Y Dance Education Laboratory educator Barry as he takes you through a fun lesson on the three different clouds to make a “Cloud Dance”.

Barry helps us learn about three types of clouds:

  • Stratus Clouds: Low-level clouds that float close to the ground and are wide and wavy like a blanket.
  • Cumulus clouds: Puffy clouds that look like pieces of floating cotton but are actually heavy.
  • Cirrus clouds: Hair-like clouds found at high altitudes that are wispy and silky sheen like strands of hair.

Find inspiration from the words that describe these different clouds to make a movement sentence. Action words describe the movement you make with your body. By putting two or more action words together, you can create a movement sentence with your body.

  • Dance wide and wavy and low to the ground like a stratus cloud.
  • Crouch midway and dance at the center of your body. Get puffy and heavy to dance like a cumulus cloud.
  • Now stand high and tall moving light and wispy like a cirrus cloud.

Combine all these different words and actions to create a new cloud dance.
