Learn Together
As children practice mixing things together they are experimenting, making predictions, building their vocabulary, and learning basic chemistry!
Materials
- Plastic water or soda bottle
- Knife or scissors
- A sock or fabric
- Rubber band or duct tape
- Dishwashing liquid
- ¼ Cup of water
- Shallow bowl
- Food coloring
Make Together
- Take a plastic bottle and cut it in half horizontally. For this experiment, we will be using the top half of the bottle.
- Grab a sock or some fabric and cover the largest open half of the bottle.
- Make sure the fabric is nice and tight around the hole. You can use rubber bands or duct tape to secure it. You now have your cloud making machine!
- In a shallow bowl mix some dishwashing liquid and a ¼ cup of water.
- Dip the large end of the cloud making contraption into the bowl of soapy water.
- Now blow through the cap end and see what happens! You will have made a bubble cloud!
- If you have food coloring try adding a few drops of your favorite colors to the outer edges of the large end of the cloud making contraption. Blow again! This time the bubbles will catch some of the colors and make a rainbow!
