Make Together

Give your next birthday party your own flair with CMOM!

Create your own party hat, crown, or paper chain and use our CMOM Birthday Zoom Background for your next bash!

Print CMOM’s Birthday Party Hat template, or CMOM’s Birthday Party Crown template. You can also use the template as a guide to draw your own version on construction paper.

For crowns you may need two of the squiggle top pieces to fit around your head. Grownups may need three.

  • Cut along the template lines or the lines you drew.
  • Decorate, decorate, decorate! Use feathers, pom poms, glitter, stickers, etc. or draw and color your favorite animals, characters, or foods.
  • Connect the squiggle top pieces together using glue or tape to form your crown.

For hats:

  • Use glue or tape in the rectangle of the template and roll your decorated paper into a cone shape, with the glue tucking under the other side. Practice rolling your hat before putting on the glue or tape.
  • Cut a piece of yarn or string that is long enough to attach to the hat on either end and loop under the chin.

Now let’s create paper chains:

  • Cut 8-10 strips of construction paper horizontally.
  • Repeat using different color paper. The more strips of paper, the longer the chain!
  • Sort cut paper into piles by color.
  • Choosing your first color, fold the paper to form a circle so that it overlaps on itself about an inch.
  • Glue the edges together. Make sure to pinch the glued paper together for a few seconds before adding the next piece. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link!
  • Add the next paper by first looping it through the last circle, and then gluing the edges the same way. Repeat, repeat, repeat until your chain is long and strong.
  • Show off your chain by attaching each end to the longest wall, drape your chain over a chair, or hang a bunch of smaller chains together like vines in a jungle. It’s your party!
