Learn Together
Encouraging children to ask questions and make predictions can lead to some of the first steps in the Scientific Method! Help your child discover a love of science through sensory surprises like this one.
Materials
- Vinegar
- Baking soda
- Food coloring
- Small toys
- Blocks or shapes
- Muffin tin
Make Together
- Secretly place a few drops of food coloring, some small blocks or shapes, or a few little toys in each cup of a muffin tin.
- Cover each item with enough baking soda so that none of the items peek through.
- Have children make predictions about what could be underneath!
- Give your child a small cup, or even a dropper with vinegar, and have them add it slowly to each baking soda mound. The chemical reaction between the baking soda and vinegar will make a big fizz and reveal the surprise beneath!
