  • Old toothbrush or dried paint brush

Make Together

Holi is a Hindu spring festival in India, also known as the festival of colors. The festival signifies the arrival of spring, the end of winter, and celebrates the start of a good harvest season.

  1. Learn more about Holi in the animated picture book Festival of Colors by Surishtha Sehgal and Kabir Sehgal.
  2. Brother and sister, Chintoo and Mintoo, prepare for Holi and gather different flowers to make colors. What colors are they making? Which flowers make
    which colors?

Splatter colors like Chintoo and Mintoo.

  1. Fill a few tiny bowls with different colors of paint like red, purple, yellow, and blue like they used in the story.
  2. Use an old toothbrush or dried paint brush and dip them into one color.
  3. Pointing the brush down at the paper, run your thumb along the bristles of the brush.
  4. The color will spray onto your paper like powder.
  5. Try this with all different colors to create a Holi inspired artwork!
