Enjoy a reading of “O Bichinho da Maçã” by Ziraldo, as narrated by CMOM Educator Ms. Kaitlyn.
Ziraldo, whose full name is Ziraldo Alves Pinto, is a beloved Brazilian author, painter, and journalist. He began his career working for newspapers, where his political cartoons and comic strips became very popular. Since then, he has written many children’s books and comics, one of which, “O Menino Maluquinho”, was adapted into an extremely popular children’s cartoon television show.
- Pause the video to practice saying the Portuguese words from the story. If you want, you can write them down on index cards to practice more later!
- When the storyteller says to, pause the video and brainstorm what might be happening in each picture. Do you have a different idea than someone else? Share it! Try using the new words you have learned as you discuss.
- At the end of the story, talk about what happened on all of the different pages. Did some of the pictures surprise you, or did you guess exactly what was going to happen? Try to retell your new story from beginning to end.
- Draw or paint a new illustration for “O Bichinho da Maçã”! What is happening in your picture? Where would it fit in the story? How would it change the story?
