Learn Together

During the month of June, cities all over the world hold Pride parades and festivals. Pride parades are where we can all express ourselves and be proud of the things that make us different and special.

Make Together

First, celebrate Pride with Queer Kids Stuff as you listen to their Pride Song!

Create a ribbon wand:

  1. Use scissors to cut ribbon, yarn, string, or fabric to your desired length, preferably between 1-2 feet long. Be careful not to cut the ribbon too long, as it could get tangled on your ribbon wand. If you don’t have colorful ribbon, you may cut strips of fabric or string and color them with markers.
  2. Secure the ribbon to your stick or dowel one at a time. Create a loop by folding the ribbon in half. Then, take the loop and place it on one end of the dowel. Take the ends of the ribbon and put them through the loop, creating a knot and pulling it tight around the dowel.
  3. Tape or glue the ribbon down to ensure the ribbon doesn’t fall off.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for other colors of ribbon.
  5. Once all the ribbons are securely on your wand, decorate your wand with markers, stickers, glitter, or paint! Make your ribbon wand as colorful and unique as you are!

Now that we have our ribbon wand, let’s have a parade!

  1. At Pride parades and festivals, many people express themselves through what they wear. Put on an outfit that makes you feel amazing! For example, you could find all of your most colorful clothes and put them on, even if they don’t match, or you could wear a costume or special piece of clothing you don’t get to wear very often.
  2. Put on some fun music you can dance to, or check out CMOM’s Pride Parade playlist featuring songs by LGBTQ+ artists!
  3. Many Pride parades are so big that they shut down entire streets, but we don’t need much space to host our own mini parade. Grab your entire family and walk, skip, dance, gallop, or groove across your living room, down a hallway or driveway to the music.
