Make your bubble paint solution:
- Pour 3 tbsp of bubble solution into a bowl for each color of bubble paint you want to create. If you don’t have bubble solution, you can combine 2 tbsp of dish soap with 1 tbsp of water and gently stir.
- Now add your colors! Add 2 tbsp liquid tempera paint or a few drops of food coloring in each bowl and stir. You can try to combine colors to make new ones.
- Test out your solution by blowing a bubble with a bubble wand.
If your bubbles are popping very quickly or if you can’t blow bubbles at all, add a little more bubble solution or dish soap and try again!
If you don’t have a bubble wand, visit CMOM at Home to make your own.
Try these methods of painting with bubbles:
- Dip your bubble wand into the solution and hold it over a piece of paper. Blow towards the paper and watch a bubble form, then pop onto the page!
- Take your solution and paper outside and try blowing your paint bubbles into the air towards a piece of paper on the ground. How many bubbles hit the paper? What happens when they pop?
- Dip a straw into the solution and blow until a large layer of bubbles appears at the top of your solution. Supervise children to ensure they don’t suck inward and drink any of the solutions. Gently place a piece of paper on top of the bubbles and remove it to create a bubble print.
- Gather 5-6 straws in a bundle and secure them with tape or string. Dip one end of the bundle into the bubble paint solution, then blow out of the other end towards a piece of paper.
After your bubble artwork is done, set it aside to dry.
